Kid President’s video about the importance of books inspired me to give a good friend one of my books. The book is called Out Of My Mind by Sharon Draper. It is a heartbreaking story about a ten year old girl named Melodee who has been paralyzed since her birth. Melodee can’t speak, walk, or even feed and go to the restroom by herself. But she does have a photographic memory and an amazing brain. All she wants in the world is to be able to share the knowledge crammed inside her, and with the help of a new kind of technology, she is finally able to have a voice. Though, not everyone is ready to hear it.

This book showed me that no one is going to really be able to accept you for who you are, and while that hurts, it’s okay. It’s not okay to pretend to be someone you’re not, to go through life just “faking it”. Life will throw obstacles at us and we just have to soldier through it.

“It will all be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”
-my friend Stella (and probably someone else, but I heard it from Stella, so…)
